The BD Basketball Scholarship Program was established in 2006 in order to fund Charlottesville-area scholarships to BD Basketball teaching programs for youth who could not afford to participate in such opportunities. In order to raise adequate funding, the Board of Directors sets annual goals for the number of scholarships it commits to support. The Board’s Scholarship Selection Committee is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with other area non-profit organizations in an effort to not only make the community aware of the opportunities being provided, but also to find suitable applicants to take part in the program.
Our non-profit foundation is supported through a variety of resources. All revenues from our teaching programs go directly into our foundation. Private and corporate donations, as well as sponsorships by community businesses drive a large part of the funding. In addition, a fundraising dinner (Central Virginia Basketball Honors Banquet) is held each spring, inviting members in the Charlottesville-Albemarle community to learn more about our mission, purpose, vision and who we serve. At this annual function, noteworthy speakers come to share their experiences and the ways in which BD Basketball has made an impact on their lives, and contributions are solicited. Each year this event serves to bring together those in the community who already support BDBS, those interested in learning more about being a part of this worthy cause and those special student-athletes that represent their schools and their programs in an upstanding manner.
Since 1998, the BD Basketball School has attempted to offer the most unique basketball teaching programs in the country. Our goal is to provide a serious environment for learning the game through a professionally-designed, comprehensive teaching curriculum that focuses on both skill and character development. Maintaining the success of this Scholarship Program will, in turn, allow the success of these programs to continue to expand its reach, impacting anyone eager to participate. Thank you for your support!
